Mrs. Mary Elliott

Died: September 27, 1884     Burial No. 39

Our Mrs. Mary Elliott was educated and used her mathematical skills to obtain employment in positions usually held by men or their wives.  A lover of horses, Mary enjoyed living and working at the Fort Reno Post.  Mary was shot and killed by a drunken soldier.  Many thought she was murdered because she insinuated the soldier was intimate with another woman.  Others thought it was because she refused to loan him money. Her husband Steve was an army ambulance driver.
