Reverend Robert St. Clair

Reverend Dwayne Ross, a retired minister, portrays Reverend Robert C. St. Clair at the lectern shaped tombstone in the Fort Reno Post Cemetery. Reverend Ross and his wife June also participate in other Fort Reno re-enactments and are wonderful volunteers. Rev. St. Clair was the preacher of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in El Reno. He was formally a soldier from 1861-65 in Company A, 15th Illinois Infantry and was therefore given a military funeral.

The Circuit Riding Preacher was common in the late 1800’s.  Robert joined the army as a young man and served in Company “A” of the Illinois Infantry, 15th Regiment.  He became an Illinois minister and helped form the Circuit Rider Ministry Association.  His interest in the western territories first led him and his wife to the Dakota Territories and then to Oklahoma Territory.  Rev. St. Clair was a minister in El Reno until his death.
