Died: September 27, 1879 Burial No. 73
No written information is available about the life of Annie Mason, but her story told during the Tombstone Tales is one that many women lived during the late 1800’s. Born into a life of comfort in the East, she married within her social class. Our Annie married an officer and followed him out to the frontier military post. She was not prepared for the harsh realities of life on the frontier that lacked the luxuries of life in the East. Annie died Sept. 27, 1879 and was the first woman buried in the Fort Reno graveyard. She has a bigger tombstone than the military markers. Anniealso has a small stone at the foot of the grave. Cause of death is unknown.
